Christmas Wishes

Okay, just time to squeeze another in...
it felt a little blank so I comp'd up a wish of mine...

All the best to you and yours, see you in 2012

BLAST from the Past #005

These pages were my contribution to the Tori Amos
Comic Book Tattoo. A magnificent anthology title
with all strips taking inspiration from her songs.
Ivan Brandon scripted, I drew. From 2008.

They feel sort of festive now, so please, drink and be merry!

INTERMISSION

Probably my last post before 2012,
so many many MANY thanks for all
the support through this crazy year.

At some point during the work posted in
the last few Blasts
I did some comic work, god knows how.
I got paid $10 a page for the above work.
That's why I don't do comics anymore.

BLAST from the Past #004

RunWild was a prototype project
that would have been an epic game.
Essentially a riders on beasts racer, it gave us the
opportunity to concept a unique IP for Disney.
A real shame it never got the greenlight, someone
somewhere will do it one day I'm sure.
In the meantime, there is a lot of range here,
and if anyone finds one single piece inspiring,
then I'm a happy man.

INTERMISSION

The next project was a so hard.
I think I did over 70 individual character studies,
and none seemed to inspire the project leads.
By it's very nature 90% of concept work ends up in the bin,
but here I felt 100% failure.
As if to compound that,
when the project failed to meet greenlight
I was reallocated to environment modelling.
A task I hadn't undertaken since 7 years prior.

BLAST from the Past #003

ATV Games. I've worked on many,
from character modeller to concept artist to Lead Character Artist.
I'd be happy to never do another.
Ever.
Here's an example of all the games from
ATV Offroad Fury Extreme (or something) to
ATV Allstars, that blended into Pure when we became a Disney owned studio.
Lastly there is some Pure2 concepts, not to be, but had massive potential.

INTERMISSION

The next post features work from 2005 to 2010 and
should show my transition from traditional to digital,
image 4 is the last scanned image before I started
drawing everything natively in the computer.
The fully rendered images are a little cheesy,
but it seems the way forward at the moment -
though hopefully with a little more sophistication.
