Sounds alot like how I tend to work as well, using the ref rather loosely as a general inspiration for the pose/action. Nothing worse than that stiff "copied from photo"-look. Yuck. Would be super cool if you ever felt like posting one of your refs side to side with a drawing, your work is a huge inspiration.

i love these sketch pieces. do you composite them in PS, or do you actually sketch into these inner twining compositions?
and is there ever an underlay, w/ construction....

How much ref do you use for ex. the fighting clowns?
Anonymous: don't be shy ;) they were ref'd from stock photos off the net, separate images and obviously not clowns.
